New Features

Geo-Tagging for Non-Geospatial Files

It is now possible to assign a geotag to files that do not inherently contain geospatial metadata. This allows you to put a spatial reference to non spatial files. For example, documents such as PDFs describing assets in specific areas can now be tagged with location information. These files will appear on the map and be included in geo-based search results, facilitating a more comprehensive spatial context for project documentation.

Raster Styling Enhancements

Raster data can now be styled directly within the platform, offering the ability to assign different colormaps and value ranges for improved context of spatial datasets on the map.

Extended File Format Support

We continue to broaden compatibility with industry-standard formats to simplify integration across workflows. This release adds support for:

  • .QGUP (QGIS Project Files)

  • Kongsberg .RAW sonar data

  • .AVI video files

JPG and World File Bundling

You can now upload a JPG image alongside its corresponding world and projection files (.jgw and .prj). These will be automatically bundled and displayed as a georeferenced raster layer on the map, supporting more flexible integration of legacy or field-collected imagery.

Expanded File Preview on Map

Users can now preview the contents of supported file types directly from the map view—provided they are geo-tagged—eliminating the need to switch to the file explorer. Supported formats include:

  • Images: BMP, JPEG, JPG, PNG, TIFF

  • Documents: CSV, DOCX, PDF, XLSX

  • Videos: M4V, MOV, MP4, WEBM

This enhancement accelerates access to critical information within a spatial context.

Workspace Security: Password Policy Enforcement

To strengthen platform security, we have introduced password policies across all workspaces. This ensures better adherence to organizational IT standards and reduces the risk of unauthorized access.

Improved Video Streaming Performance

The video viewer now supports large file playback through adaptive video streaming. This ensures seamless access to high-resolution video content regardless of file size, supporting better inspection workflows.

Enhancements and Changes

Improved Handling of GeoTIFF Bundles

In cases where the coordinate system of a bundled GeoTIFF cannot be recognized, users now have the option to expand the bundle and view the raster TIFF image separately. This provides fallback access to image data without disrupting analysis.

Weather Forecast Data Attribution

Weather data provided via the map interface now includes a reference to SPIRE Global as the source. This ensures transparency and traceability in environmental context layers.

Side Scan Sonar (SSS) Rasterization:

The ability to generate high-resolution raster images from raw Side Scan Sonar (SSS) files is a powerful feature of our platform. As this process requires significant processing power, it may take several minutes to complete.

To ensure efficiency, we have implemented a mechanism that pre-calculates the required resources before starting the rasterization process. If the available resources are insufficient, a notification will be displayed, and the raster image will not be computed. If this occurs, please contact north.io support to increase resources as needed.
