The platform allows you to upload files that are presented to you in the File Manager. Each project that is created in your workspace has its own File Manager.
Once uploaded, your files are checked by the platform to identify whether they belong to the supported file formats. If this is the case, your files are being indexed and prepared for inspection, providing you an instant ability to inspect the spatial extend, metadata and previews. This provides the basis for you to manage your files and collaborate using the provided functionalities.
Project File Manager View
When entering a project, you see the project name and tabs for Info, Files, Uploads, Shares, External Sources, project Users and Settings (depending on your role).
Please note not all tabs might be visible to you depending on your role.
Info: Shows project description and overview
Files: Displays all uploaded files. The features in this section will be described in this article
Uploads: Provides an overview of ongoing uploads in this project. Note finished uploads disappear in this list, so an empty list means only there are no currently ongoing uploads, but not there haven’t been uploads
Shares: Provides an overview of open shares of this project. Click on each share record to see details. Similar to the ‘Uploads’ tab no history is provided here
External Sources: Provides the option to add an external Web Map Service (WMS) to your project.
Users: Provides the user management in this project, see this article for details.
Settings: In this screen you can edit the project name, include an external metadata catalogue and delete the project.
Within the Files tab you see two main sections:
The file treeview with folders and files (left)
The file inspector (right) showing either folder content or file information when a file is selected in the tree view:
When you select a folder in the tree view the folder contents (subfolders and files) are displayed in the main area, if you select a file as shown in above screenshot the following content appears (depending on the file type) in the file inspection section.
Inspecting files
Depending on the file type selected in the tree view, the available file information is presented to you several possible previews. These previews are shown or not shown bases on the type of file you select, and what is available.
Overview: Interactive map with the sensor data footprint / raster preview / vector data preview
Metadata: Additional file information contained in the datafile
Table: Sample of table data, if available
(3D) Preview: Three dimensional pointcloud preview / geotechnical preview / image preview
Logs: Logs of data processing, if available in the file
Overview (Map preview)
If a file has a spatial contents, fully recognized by the platform, an interactive map is provided to view the contained information. This information is, in case of pointclouds, derived from the data as a footprint. For example a multibeam file is displayed as its track(line) including arrows showing the direction. Similarly, rasters and vector data are shown in its raw form. When your file is visualized here, its location is properly indexed (based on the data provided) and will be searchable as well and shareable via the map.
On the right side you can slide in and out the preview for Metadata/file information:
For a complete display of all available information please see the corresponding tab 'Metadata' top of the map overview.
File Information and Metadata
To see all File Information, Metadata and Logs please select the corresponding tabs on the top:
Content Table View
For some file types you can display its content in a table view, when this tab is offered select it to get into this display
As the preparation of such view needs some processing it is not done automatically, but for the first time please activate the display via clicking on 'Compute table'.
Preview
When offered for this file type (e.g. for multibeam files a 3D point cloud view) choose the 'Preview' tab to see a visual display.
As the preparation of such view needs some processing it is not done automatically, but for the first time please activate the preview via clicking on 'Compute preview'.
Previews can consist of 3D pointclouds
But also as “GeoImage” like for example this seismic profile derived from a .sgy file.
Logs
Additional logged settings and processing steps are displayed here, if the file contains these.
File Operations
When selecting a file several operations are displayed on top of the folder content list as buttons or via right-clicking the file name as context menu:
Note: The available options depend on the given rights (see Set project member permissions)
Add to map: Choose this one in case you like to show your file (that contains geolocation information) on one of your maps as a separate layer. The upcoming dialogue provides the list of existing maps and the option to create a new map directly from this dialogue.
Once executed a short message is displayed confirming this.
You can then follow the link in the confirmation message to go to the main map or choose one of your maps via the ‘Maps’ icon on the left side navigation bar. (Map functionalities are described in the maps article)Share a copy: Create a share to distribute this file. To share a file, there are several ways to do this. When clicking on share several options will be provided:
URL: Your file will be published via a link that you can share with people. The link will remain active for 7 days from where it will be automatically deactivated.
RSYNC & SFTP: These protocols allow you to transfer larger quantities of data, commonly not feasible via browser. Here credentials will be given to connect to an individually created SFTP / RSYNC server to access the folder or files that are shared.
Publish as WMS: This option allows you to publish any file with a georeference as a Web Map Service (WMS), please see Web Map Services for details.
Download: Create a web download, to be used mainly for smaller files, else please create a share. (Alternative: Create a ‘Share via URL’ as described here).
Reindex: During the initial file import the files are pre-processed. In case the file type is one listed in supported file types, but it looks as if it is not recognized (Message: File type not supported, please download) use right click and 'reindex' as the first approach to run the process on this file again. If it fails again please contact the support for further investigations.
Edit CRS: Set or edit the Coordinate Reference System of the file.
Rename: Option to enter a new name for this file. Choose ‘Confirm’ to execute the renaming or ‘Cancel’ to skip the action.
Move: Select this option to move this file to a different folder (within this project). The upcoming dialogue will offer you a list of existing target folders and the option to create a new folder directly from this dialogue. Choose ‘Confirm’ to execute the move or ‘Cancel’ to skip moving.
Note: Files can also be moved via drag&drop operations (either within left tree view or in right folder content view, currently not from left to right or vice versa).Delete: Remove this file from this folder. ⚠️Please note it can currently not be recovered, but must be uploaded again. For multi-file deletion see below.
Multi-Deletion of Folders and Files
Select files and/or folders via single checkboxes left of the name or all files (currently restricted to 100 items) via the checkbox on top of the checkbox column.
Click on the 'Delete' Button or choose to delete the items via the context menu
The dialogue to confirm this action is shown, please note currently you cannot undo a delete action!
Note: When the system executes multi-file/folder deletions conflicts may arise, i.e. folders are targets of upload activities, belong to an open share or files are actually processed. These conflicts will be highlighted and you can take appropriate actions (like closing a share). Nevertheless folders/files not affected by conflicts will be deleted as requested.
Folder Operations
When right-clicking a folder (in the left side tree view or on a folder in the main area) the following options are displayed (some main items are also available via buttons above the folder content listing):
New folder: When chosen a new folder is created within the chosen folder, please specify a name in the ‘New folder’ dialogue or choose ‘Back’ to skip new folder generation
Upload: (this option is also available as ‘Upload’ button on the top right) Choose this one to start the upload process of files to this folder (as described in Uploading data to the platform).
Share a copy: Create a share to distribute this folder
Download: Trigger a web download, to be used mainly for smaller files, else please create a share
Rename: Option to enter a new name for this folder
Move: Select this option to move this folder to a different folder (within this project). The upcoming dialogue will offer you a list of existing target folders and the option to create a new folder directly from this dialogue. Choose ‘Confirm’ to execute the move or ‘Cancel’ to skip moving.
Note: Folders can also be moved via drag&drop operations (either within left tree view or in right folder content view, currently not from left to right or vice versa).Delete: Remove this folder. ⚠️Please note it can currently not be recovered, but must be uploaded again. For multi-folder deletion see above.
