Set and Edit the Coordinate Reference System (CRS)

Set or adjust your files' CRS directly on the platform

Introduction

Setting or adjusting the Coordinate Reference System (CRS) ensures your geospatial files are displayed and processed correctly on the platform, helping you avoid misaligned data and safeguard consistent results across your geospatial data. When you upload files, the platform automatically pre-processes them and extracts geographic information, including the CRS.

In some cases, however, the CRS cannot be found or fully verified. This may happen if:

- no CRS is included in the metadata or auxiliary files

- the CRS is stored in a non-standard location or format within the file

- the detection algorithm cannot confirm the CRS with certainty

- multiple CRS definitions are present in the same file.

When this occurs, you will see a warning message in the Overview tab, stating the CRS is missing. Alternatively it could occur that the EPSG code is interpreted as 40400 (indicating that no valid CRS was found) in the Metadata tab.

How to edit the CRS

You can manually control and correct your files’ CRS. Simply go to the Metadata tab and use the File information section to manually set or adjust the CRS. Alternatively, you can right-click on the file and select Edit CRS from the context menu. This ensures your files' CRS are accurately interpreted and fully ready for use, even when automatic detection fails.

Note that this does not change the file itself, but rather helps the platform to accurately interpret its spatial context.

Options to edit the CRS

  • From file (if existing and found)

  • From list (provides a list of official CRS codes to choose from

    • Supported Authorities (in order of preference):

      1. EPSG (6876 codes)

      2. OGC (4 codes)

      3. ESRI (1559 codes)

      4. IGNF (864 codes)

      5. IAU_2015 (2201 codes)

      6. NKG (2 codes)

  • Custom (option to set an individual CRS definition)

When you have chosen your new CRS please click 'Apply & Reindex' to save and activate the new setting:

When the CRS was modified this is indicated as follows:

Reset the CRS

In case you like to revert to the files original setting you can reset the CRS modification by clicking the reset button right of 'Edit CRS' (see above screenshot).
