July 2024 Release

New Features:

  • TrueOcean now has an advanced User Management with the possibility to manage both visibility as well as access to your data (down to folder level) by using the user roles Administrator, Member and Guest. (See 'User Management' article for more information.)

  • Maps are now sharable: Users can create their own private maps and decide with which users of the platform these maps are shared. Moreover, the invited map collaborators can be assigned a view only or editing permission to keep full control of your maps. (See 'User Management' and ‘Map’ articles for further information.)

  • Raw Side Scan Sonar data is now processed to 2D geotiff previews, providing an on the fly processing and visualization of filetypes *.sdf and *.jsf.

Enhancements/Changes:

  • The TrueOcean platform is getting more and more functionalities and improvements to make managing your marine data become easier, faster and better! We now managed to improve our 3D previews in terms of preview rendering ability and speed. This means that your 3D pointclouds become more accessible through on the fly interactive pointcloud viewer.

  • TrueOcean uses an indexing process that makes your files searchable and inspectable. Especially when dealing with large data quantities this can be a resource demanding operation. Our developers have managed to reduce the indexing process to seconds per file, making your data appear faster after uploads have finished.

  • The Change Type option has been removed, disallowing the user to change file types to an unrecoverable state. The platform now fully relies on the file naming to identify file formats and datatypes.

  • The creation of groups on maps has now a new naming logic which skips the numbering of groups [e.g. Group 1, Group 2 etc] and will refer to “New Group” for all. Renaming of the group allows the user to create the desired map structure.

  • Within a project the tab structure has been rearranged to be split from ‘Settings’ to ‘Info’ and ‘Users’ to give the now enhanced user management capabilities a separate space. See ‘Project Settings’ article for more information.

Known Restrictions

  • Preview of las, laz, pts, txt (svp) and xyz files restricted to 5 in parallel: The 3D viewer requires a separate instance which consumes quites some resources. For this reason an instance is time limited to 30 minutes. In addition the platform allows a maximum of 5 instances at the same time. The oldest instance will be removed if a new preview is inititated. The advantage is the (re-)creation of the preview works much faster than before.
