What is a geodatabase?
The geodata world has been pioneered by ESRI's ArcGiS which has been so kind to provide the world with their timeless fileformats for vector (point, polygons and lines) and raster data. Some customers will use this format to collect deliverables from their contractors. Therefore the platform allows users to upload and inspect geodatabases.
A geodatabase is an archive (folder named with .gdb in it) that can hold various datasets:
Vector & Raster Data
Multiple Layers
Tables
How to work with geodatabases in the platform
The geodatabase is technically the same as a folder with a set of database files. Based on the folder name ending on .gdb, it will be considered to be a geodatabase and will be displayed as such. In the file tree, the original (non human readable) files will be listed. When selecting the *.gdb folder in the tree view, the list of layers will be shown in the file inspector.
Individual layers can be selected, displaying the option to either open it in an Inspector view, or add directly to a map. The inspector is a slightly different display but holds the same functionality as the file inspector that is shown for other data sets.
